Preview the result right on the page and download it as MP3 or WAV.

What changing the speed actually does

This tool plays your audio back at a different rate, the same way a tape machine or turntable does when you spin it faster or slower. Speed up audio and the pitch goes up with it; slow down audio and everything drops lower and stretches out. The math is simple: new length = original length ÷ speed, so 2x cuts a track to half its length and 0.5x doubles it.

That coupling of speed and pitch is a feature, not a bug. It's the sound behind sped-up remixes on TikTok, nightcore edits, and slowed + reverb versions that dominate late-night playlists. A "chipmunked" vocal at 1.3x or a deep, syrupy one at 0.8x only happens because pitch moves with tempo. Pitch-preserving time stretch exists, but it smears transients and sounds processed, which is why the classic edits don't use it.

Picking a speed that works

  • 1.15x – 1.35x — the sweet spot for sped-up song edits. Enough energy to feel different, not so much that vocals turn cartoonish.
  • 1.5x – 2x — great for getting through voice memos, lecture recordings and practice takes quickly. At 2x, speech is still intelligible for most voices.
  • 0.75x – 0.9x — the slowed zone. 0.8x is roughly where most slowed edits sit, and it's also handy for transcribing fast passages or learning a guitar solo by ear.
  • 0.5x — extreme, but useful for picking apart dense drum fills or hearing exactly where a note lands.

Want a specific vibe instead of a raw speed change?

This page is the general-purpose control. If you already know the sound you want, the purpose-built tools get you there faster: the Sped Up Song Maker is tuned for TikTok-style edits, the Nightcore Maker adds the bright top end nightcore is known for, and the Slowed & Reverb Generator pairs a slowdown with lush reverb for the full dreamy treatment.

FAQ

Is this audio speed changer free?

Yes, completely free. No sign-up, no watermarks, no limits on how many files you process. Export as MP3 or WAV as often as you like.

Do my files get uploaded to a server?

No. Everything runs in your browser using the Web Audio API. Your file is decoded, processed and re-encoded on your own device and never leaves it.

Does changing the speed also change the pitch?

Yes. This tool works like a tape machine or turntable: faster playback raises the pitch, slower playback lowers it. That coupled sound is exactly what sped-up and slowed edits are built on.

Can I speed up audio without changing the pitch?

Not with this tool. Pitch-preserving time stretching is a different algorithm and it introduces artifacts of its own. Here, speed and pitch move together by design.

What audio formats can I use?

You can drop in MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC files up to 60 MB and about 15 minutes long. The result downloads as MP3 (192 kbps) or uncompressed WAV.

How much shorter or longer will my file be?

New length equals original length divided by the speed. At 2x a 4-minute track becomes 2 minutes; at 0.5x it becomes 8 minutes. The tool shows this estimate as you move the slider.
